South Korean authorities have detained a Russian man in his 20s following an alleged violent ambush tied to a fraudulent cryptocurrency transaction worth 1 billion won ($728,000). The arrest occurred in Busan, while two accomplices fled the country, prompting an international manhunt.
Gangseo Police Precinct confirmed the suspect was apprehended at 3:40 p.m. on Tuesday. The group reportedly targeted Korean nationals in a peer-to-peer crypto deal gone awry. The incident unfolded on May 21, 2025, at a Gangseo District hotel where the suspects lured victims under false pretenses.
